我手上的《懒惰哲学趣话:外国名家人生美文66篇》大约买于大一那一年,应该是在贵阳师大附近的书店打六折买的。这是一本很廉价的书,装帧也很普通。书纸泛黄,摸着有些粗糙,不如普通的正版书籍摸着光滑。

66篇美文,选的都是外国名作家的优秀散文、随笔,并由国内知名学者翻译。这些美文,按照内容主题划分,分为“初遇生命”“时光倒影”“灵魂的足音”“心灵纪程”四个部分。

这些美文我读了不到一半。没有读的文章,不是不喜欢,而是没有耐心阅读。至于读了的部分,总体感觉很好。

我这种寻寻常常的头脑,大概是最适合读哲理美文的。让我啃《精神现象学》《纯粹理性批判》《存在与时间》这样的哲学巨著,一方面我啃得很艰辛,一方面我还消化不良,感觉不到多少切己的东西。反倒是部分美文给我留下了深刻的印象,给我了读了后很是割舍不下的启迪。

其中,茨威格《成功的秘诀》我读得最多。当时是和另一个译本进行对比阅读的。这篇文章在语文课本上的题目叫《罗丹的启示》。两相比较,《罗丹的启示》更委婉含蓄,《成功的秘诀》则更直白更吸引人一些。但是有必要提醒未读过或读过但读得比较浅表的读者,茨威格说的“成功的秘诀”并非仅是为了功成名就,更是一种通过专注来全力以赴,最后在忘我的创造中获得深沉幸福的法宝。

这本书以后恐怕是不会阅读了,所以“扔掉”之前特别寻找摘句,一是为了纪念,一是为了物尽其用,让它不至于白白跟我一场。

说是摘录,其实也是在书中认识自己,也是在借这些句子来表达自己,充实自己。

  The appointment of other Ministers usually takes a little longer. I trust when Parliament meets again this part of my task will be completed and that the administration will be complete in all respects.

  I considered it in the public interest to suggest to the Speaker that the House should be summoned today. At the end of today's proceedings, the adjournment of the House will be proposed until May 2l with provision for earlier meeting if need be. Business for that will be notified to M. P. 's at the earliest opportunity.

  I now invite the House by a resolution to record its approval of the steps taken and declare its confidence in the new government. The resolution:

  "That this House welcomes the formation of a government representing the united and inflexible resolve of the nation to prosecute the war with Germany to a victorious conclusion."

  To form an administration of this scale and complexity is a serious undertaking in itself. But we are in the preliminary Phase of one of the greatest battles in history. We are in action at any other points-in Norway and in Holland-and we have to be prepared in the Mediterranean. The air battle is continuing, and many preparations have to be made here at home.

  In this crisis I think I may be pardoned if I do not address the House at any length today, and I hope that any of my friends and colleagues or for mer colleagues who are affected by the political reconstruction will make all allowances for any lack of ceremony with which it has been necessary to act.

  I say to the House as I said to Ministers who have joined this government, I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many months of struggle and suffering.

  You ask, what is our policy? I say it is to wage war by land, sea and air. War with all our might and with all the strength God has given us, and to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy.

  You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word, It is victory. Victory at all costs-victory in spite of all terrors-victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival.

  Let that be realized. No survival for the British Empire, no survival for all that the British Empire has stood for, no survival for the urge, the impulse of the ages, that mankind shall move forward toward his goal.

  I take up my task in buoyancy and hope. I feel sure that our cause will not be suffered to fail among men.

  Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells by not stopping, never giving up, shaking it off, and taking a step up!

  You cannot change the laws of physics ... but could physics actually enable us to travel through time?

  It might sound crazy, but according to Einstein‘s theories, there‘s no logical reason why time travel isn‘t possible.

  Time travel is clearly a trickier proposition than space travel,though. And prior to Einstein, it would have been deemed utterly impossible! That‘s because the old idea about time was that it was like a cosmic metronome keeping a regular and constant beat throughout the universe. And it was thought to move in one direction only .

  However, what physicists now know is that time is rather more flexible than the old “ Clockwork Universe” ideas they had it. And it was Albert Einstein who set the cat among the pigeons.

  Einstein‘s theories about time and space were revolutionary. He became a celebrity--and not just in scientific circles. It‘s only since he published his theories that scientists have been able to demonstrate that space and time really behave the way he said they did.

  In 1971, after Einstein‘s death, two scientists were able to carry out a crucial experiment. They used two atomic clocks, synchronized them, and placed one on a plane, while the other stayed in the same location on Earth. The plane then flew around the world for 80 hours. According to Einstein‘s theory, the clock on the plane would be expected to have lost time, due to being in motion over 80 hours compared to the clock on the ground. When they brought the clocks together and made a comparison, the clock on the plane was indeed a few nanoseconds slower than the other clock. The experiment was replicated in 1996 with advanced technology, and it was proved again--with an even bigger time difference this time. Which proves that not only is time “ warp-able” , but Einstein was arguably the greatest thinker the world has ever seen.

  If it were possible, however, it would present some pretty knotty paradoxes... For example, what if someone or something traveled back in time and changed the ensuing future? And have you heard the one about the time traveller who dots back and forward in time and by means of various medical technologies is able to be his own father AND mother?! And besides, if time travel is possible, where are all the people from the future--surely they‘d want to come and meet us poor stranded 21st century beings?

  At the Backs of King’s College there is a memorial stone in white marble commemorating an alumnus of the College, renowned Chinese poet Xu Zhimo. Moving to the UK in 1921, Zhimo spent a year studying at King’s, where he fell in love not only with the romantic poetry of English poets like John Keats, but also with Cambridge itself.

  She’s back again. The wrinkled hand, heavy with pleading, is now answering.

  She drops four warm quarters into my palm and says, “Get yourselves a cup of coffee. Merry Christmas.”

The unnerving silence was only interrupted by the sound of my turn signal.

  It had been twelve years since Jenna truly "felt good." And for twelve years she had lived courageously, fighting her chronic disease. I understood her feelings of defeat. I too was tired of daily watching my daughter tend to her catheter site, injecting herself with the proper medications, and experiencing the unpredictable side effects. I, too, wanted to join her in screaming, "I"m sick and tired of you being sick and tired!"

  Watching her in such emotional and physical pain made me ache all over. If only I could take her illness upon me, I"d give her my health and bear her infirmity. But I felt helpless not knowing how to console her.

  I pulled into the first parking lot I could find. I parked the car, stepped out and then crawled into the backseat where Jenna lay motionless. I brushed her hair from her eyes hoping she"d open them and look into mine. She didn"t move. For five minutes or more, I just sat and held her, praying that God would renew her strength and will to live.

  What does a mother say to her child who is living a nightmare, praying that she"d someday soon wake up and it would be over? What words could bring comfort when all hope is lost?

  Not knowing the answers, I spoke from my heart, hoping to reach Jenna"s. "Jenna, I need you to look at me. I need to know that you really understand what I am about to say."

  She turned her head towards me and opened her eyes. Immediately she began to repeat her words of hopelessness. Gently, I placed my finger against her lips.

  "Honey, today you"re tired and you"ve lost all hope. Today, you can rest in my arms and let me hope for you. You can be assured that my hope is endless and so is my love..."

She had been on her feet since five that morning, doing everybody"s bidding, scolded and hurried by a nervous matron. Mrs. Lippett, behind the scenes, did not always maintain that calm and pompous dignity with which she faced an audience of trustees and lady visitors. Jerusha gazed out across a broad stretch of frozen lawn, beyond the tall iron paling that marked the confines of the asylum, down undualting ridges sprinkled with country estates, to the spires of the village rising from the midst of bare trees.

If you think about it, youll notice that it takes an enormous amount of energy and is very stressful to be sitting at the edge of your seat trying to guess what the person in front of you (or on the telephone) is going to say so that you can fire8 back your response. But as you wait for the person you are communicating with to finish, as you simply listen more intently to what is being said, youll notice that the pressure you feel is off. Youll immediately feel more relaxed, and so will the people you are talking to.They will feel safe in slowing down their own responses because they wont feel in competition with you for " air time " ! Not only will becoming a better listener make you a more patient person, it will also enhance the quality of your relationships. Everyone loves to talk to someone who truly listens to what they are saying.

  Franks voice dropped a bit. "When the weather was bad he would drive me to school. He had this old truck that he used in his fishing business. That truck was older than he was. It would wheeze and rattle down the road. You could hear it coming for blocks. As he would drive toward the school, I would shrink down into the seat hoping to disappear. Half the time, he would slam to a stop and the old truck would belch a cloud of smoke. He would pull right up in front, and it seemed like everybody would be standing around and watching. Then he would lean over and give me a big kiss on the cheek and tell me to be a good boy. It was so embarrassing for me. Here, I was twelve years old, and my Dad would lean over and kiss me goodbye!"

我手上的《懒惰哲学趣话:外国名家人生美文66篇》大约买于大一那一年,应该是在贵阳师大附近的书店打六折买的。这是一本很廉价的书,装帧也很普通。书纸泛黄,摸着有些粗糙,不如普通的正版书籍摸着光滑。

66篇美文,选的都是外国名作家的优秀散文、随笔,并由国内知名学者翻译。这些美文,按照内容主题划分,分为“初遇生命”“时光倒影”“灵魂的足音”“心灵纪程”四个部分。

这些美文我读了不到一半。没有读的文章,不是不喜欢,而是没有耐心阅读。至于读了的部分,总体感觉很好。

我这种寻寻常常的头脑,大概是最适合读哲理美文的。让我啃《精神现象学》《纯粹理性批判》《存在与时间》这样的哲学巨著,一方面我啃得很艰辛,一方面我还消化不良,感觉不到多少切己的东西。反倒是部分美文给我留下了深刻的印象,给我了读了后很是割舍不下的启迪。

其中,茨威格《成功的秘诀》我读得最多。当时是和另一个译本进行对比阅读的。这篇文章在语文课本上的题目叫《罗丹的启示》。两相比较,《罗丹的启示》更委婉含蓄,《成功的秘诀》则更直白更吸引人一些。但是有必要提醒未读过或读过但读得比较浅表的读者,茨威格说的“成功的秘诀”并非仅是为了功成名就,更是一种通过专注来全力以赴,最后在忘我的创造中获得深沉幸福的法宝。

这本书以后恐怕是不会阅读了,所以“扔掉”之前特别寻找摘句,一是为了纪念,一是为了物尽其用,让它不至于白白跟我一场。

说是摘录,其实也是在书中认识自己,也是在借这些句子来表达自己,充实自己。

最明亮的欢乐火焰大都是由意外的火花点燃的。人生道路上不时散发出芳香的火花,也是偶然落下的种子自然生长起来的。

一个人一旦投身于政治,便不再是自己生活的主宰,所有的人都企图主宰他的生活。

有效地使用语句间的连接成分,使全文结构紧凑是高考“书面表达”重要的评分依据。为了使文章结构紧凑、自然流畅,给人以上下贯通、一气呵成的感觉,段落之间要使用适当的过渡语;句子之间要使用逻辑性合理的衔接词。高考书面表达常用过渡性连接词分类如下:

篇4:“五步”成就英语美文

一、英文写作总述

根据《课标(2011版)》要求,初中英文写作主要涉及“个人情况”、“家庭、朋友与周围的人”等24个话题,这些话题都紧密围绕同学们学习和生活中大家都非常熟悉的内容(所以,平时同学们做写作练习时,千万不要练习远离生活的偏僻话题)。这些内容多数为记叙文,部分为描述性和说明性的文章,鲜有纯议论的文章。下面就以话题“家庭、朋友与周围的人”为例,与大家一起练习这种写作方法。

二、中考实例:(此实例为武汉市中考试题)

介绍你的英语老师Mr. Lee,要点如下:

1. 他40岁,有一个幸福的家庭;2. 性格外向(outgoing),与学生相处很好;3. 他的课堂有趣,课后帮我们学习英语;4. 他不抽烟,爱运动,擅长下国际象棋(chess);5. 要求60-80 词;6. 在文章中不出现真实姓名和学校名称。

三、写作步骤:

一)认真审题。

在动笔之前,先把写作要求研读几遍,提炼重点,并列于草纸,加深印象。审题至少要弄清两点:

首先是写什么。即弄清要表达什么内容;通过哪些要点来表达;字数是多少;有哪些特别要求等,对要写的内容做到心中有数。

其次是怎么写。“怎么写”要明确三点:

第一是明确体裁。是介绍、叙述还是议论;是日记、E—mail还是通知等。

第二是明确时态。根据作文的体裁及内容,确定全文的大致时态。如上例写作内容是介绍老师,应主要用一般现在时。如果时态用错,按中考阅卷惯例,作文几乎都是零分。

第三是明确人称。如上例,介绍之初用第一人称,后面涉及到介绍老师部分用第三人称,涉及到同学们的用第一人称(we)。

二)提炼短语

根据写作要求,围绕主题拓展思维,联系生活,大胆想象,看提炼出要用到哪些短语;为提高效率,方便后面造句,将这些短语罗列在草稿纸上,每行一词,如下例:

提炼短语时要注意三点:一是这些短语一定要能覆盖到写作要求的所有要点;二是遇到不会翻译的要点怎么办?用其他的表达方法!如上例,有的同学忘记了“get along well with”怎么办?我们可以用 be friendly to 或 be kind to,这些都忘了,我们还可以用“we all like him”来代替。

三)短语造句

这一步,我们要用上面给出的词来造句。为提高效率,我们就在罗列的短语前后加词直接造句,此时一定要注意时态和人称的变化。这样草纸上很快就会出现这些句子了:

四)提升文采

文采的提升又分三步,为提高效率,就在草纸上直接改动上面的句子。

第一步,精彩的开头。

平时同学们要注意积累一些不同写作内容的的精彩开头和结尾,如写人的文章,我们都可以用以下句子作为开头:

Please read my words, then you will like my English teacher.

Do you like your English teacher? I like my English teacher best.

I have a great English teacher, he is very important for us.

Which teacher do you like best? I like my English teacher best.

这些开头基本适用于所有写人的文章,稍作修改后,我们就可以把“English teacher”替换为“my father, my friend...”现在,同学们就可以从积累的这些开头中选取一个你最喜欢的作为开头。

第二步,润色句子。

正如同学们所说,上面的“一He到底”太没有文采了,怎么办,改变句子的表达方式,怎么改变呢?从三个角度改变:

第一个角度,改变单句表达方式。

除了陈述句,在初中阶段我们还学习了感叹句、一般疑问句、特殊疑问句、选择疑问句、反义疑问句、祈使句等等,我们可以根据需要把这些“一He到底”的句子用这些句式来表达:

第二个角度,巧妙使用连词和关联词语。

连词和关联词语的运用,会使句子之间的链接更为流畅、精彩,读起来也更有语感。所以,同学们平时要积累一些这样的词语:

表示顺承关系的词语:1. and; 2. then; 3. neither...nor...; 4. either...or..., 5. at first..., then...,at last...; 6. on the other hand; 7. by the way; 8. not only..., but also...; 9. in other word; 10. in a word...

表示转折关系的词语:1. but; 2. however; 3. or

如上例,在介绍完老师帮助我们学英语后,再介绍老师“不抽烟,爱运动”时,我们就可以这样连接:

第三个角度,运用主从复合句。

初中阶段,我们学习的主从复合句主要有宾语从句、定语从句和状语从句。运用主从复合句稍有难度,建议同学们在有把握的情况下使用。如上例,介绍老师的年龄和家庭时,也可以用定语从句来表达:

He is a 40-year-old man who has a happy family.

在写他课后帮我们学习英语时,可以用结果状语从句表达:

He is so friendly to us that he often helps us with English after class.

使用主从复合句对有些同学来说可能有一定难度,但如果使用正确,一定会让读者对你的英语水平高看一眼。

第三步,有力的结尾。

中文写作讲究“凤头豹尾”,就是结尾一定要深刻有力、耐人寻味,英文写作也不例外。平时,同学要积累一些不同写作内容的的精彩结尾,如写人的文章,我们都可以用以下句子作为结尾:

This is my excellent teacher, we shall like him forever.

What an excellent teacher! /How excellent Mr. lee is! Do you like him?

In a word, he is an excellent teacher, and we all like him.

What do you think of our English teacher, Mr. Lee?

同样,这些结尾基本适用于所有写人的文章,稍作修改后,我们就可以把“English teacher”替换为“my father, my friend...”现在,同学们就可以从积累的这些开头中选取一个你最喜欢的作为结尾。

  I do not see a world without nuclear weapons. But I do see one where the awesome power of these weapons has made world war obsolete as an instrument of policy. For that reason, I do not believe there will be a Third World War.

  I see a world where the honor of being called great is bestowed not on the world’s warriors but in the world’s peacemakers.

  And I see one world, but not a world drab in its uniformity but one enriched by its diversity. I see an open world, a world of open cities, open skies, open minds and open hearts; a world where our enemies are not other peoples but the common enemies of all mankind: poverty, hunger, misery, and injustice wherever they may exist in the world.

  And I see a world in which there will continue to be conflict but where competition between great peoples will build rather than destory---where it will be a force for peace and progress rather than a force for war.

  Some will question my optimism. But of this one thing I am sure: without cooperation between the Chinese people and the American people, there is no chance that the 21st century in which you will live will be a century of peace and progress for all people.

  This is what I hope for China. This is what I hope for the world. This is what I hope for you., the new generation of China, whose task is to help to build and to meet those goals.

  What about drinking alcohol to wet your throat? I advice you not to touch alcohol before speaking. The problem with alcohol is that one drink gives you a little confidence. The second drink gives you even more confidence. Finally you will feel all-powerful and you will feel you can do everything, but in fact your brain and your mouth do not work together properly. Save the alcohol until after you finish speaking.

  Perhaps you want to accept the advice, but you may wonder if you can ever change the habits of a lifetime. Of course you can. Goethe, who lived before indoor skating rinks or swimming pools, said, "We learn to skate in the summer and swim in the winter". Take this message to heart and give yourself time to develop your new habits. If you are wiling to change, you will soon be able to say that you will never forget these techniques because they became a part of your body.

  In Sao Paulo, a baby boy is chortling away, unaware that a court is deciding his fate. If it finds in his father's favour, he is in all kinds of trouble. There may be a law in Brazil against giving your child a name that might cause him to be mocked, but daddy wants to call his son Osama bin Laden. The same father, Osvaldo Oliveira Soares, has form for trying to use babies as political statements. Nine years ago, he was banned from naming a previous son Saddam Hussein.

  Unlike Brazil, there is no law in Britain that restricts a parent's right to name their child. "It's not for the registrar to say if someone has picked a name they don't think is suitable," says Alison Cathcart, superintendent registrar at Westminster register office. "But if someone is from a different culture and wants to register a name that sounds like a swear word in English then we do advise them of that."

  "Naming does matter," says Helen Petrie, a professor at the City University of London and a researchersintosthe psychology of naming. "We have stereotypes of what sort of people are behind certain names. There are studies of teachers in primary schools in the US that show they rate children with certain names as less able.

  "The name is the first thing we find out when we meet someone. If you call your child an unusual fluffy name like Fifi Trixibelle, as did Bob Geldof and Paula Yates, it can make life hard for you - especially if you want to be prime ministerial and are not in the least bit fluffy-headed."

  There's also the class factor. "Fifty years ago there was no cross-over of names between classes. Now everyone can buy Tatler and see the name Tarquin," says Petrie. "Until the 60s, Tracey was a posh Chelsea name. Now it has a terrible stereotype. I've interviewed some Traceys who find their name a huge burden. However high up they may be in their profession, people hear their name and think they're the cleaner."

  But no name is entirely safe. Your parents may not mean to mess you up but they can't know what the next mass murderer will be called. They can't necessarily protect you from other children who have a gift for making fun of any name. Sophies will tell you they were called Sofa in school; Theodores get nicknamed Odour. But, if your surname is Graves or Banks, you might reasonably expect your parents to have noticed that Robin had problems.
